Every character has an origin story, and superheroes tend to have fantastical ones. A baby is sent to earth on a rocket from an exploding planet and raised by a kind, childless, couple in rural Kansas, a boy witnesses his parents’ murder and vows to protect the innocent, or a teenager is bitten by a spider and receives amazing powers, these are three popular superhero origin stories.
Guardian’s origin story reflects how she came to earth, why she appears human, why she stayed, and how she received her clothing that can transform into her super uniform. It does at least one other thing too, it reveals her character. It reveals her inclination to step into bad situations and improve them.
We see this inclination throughout the novel in a multitude of capacities, as a doctor, as a friend, and as a superhero. One person can make a difference, even if it improves just one person’s situation. Anyone can be a hero by doing just that.
